On Thursday night we did a trio session with Kevin Brown (Dan Rosenstark on drums and Mike Rosenstark on guitar and voice). We recorded for two hours straight (even through a pause in the middle), with 11 or 12 cameras capturing video (video coming soon!).
There are some beautiful textures, wonderful dynamic peaks and valleys, pristine silence and some raucous rocking out. At times the group transitions and gels so smoothly that it’s hard to believe it’s improvised.
New this week on the equipment front: Kevin is playing through a beautiful Marcus Miller SWR Preamp before he hits a whole mess of other gear (including a trio of M13s and an Eventide PitchFactor). Dan has removed all Korg Kaoss products (including the beloved KP3) from his rig, alleging that they destroy sound quality. Aside from the outboard Wavedrums (by Korg, ironically), 100% of Dan’s audio is processed inside the computer. New on this session is Roger Linn’s Sync Plugin Version 2 and about 48 Ableton Simple Delays. Mike’s rig is leaping forward at an alarming rate, but the recent addition of a Voicelive 2 creates some wonderful harmonic weaves for his voice.
